MISSIONARIES CLEAN DRINKING WELL FOR EJIDO LA FLORIDA, MEXICO: In 2009 we started a collection for missions called ABC Sunday. Each month, on the third Sunday we ask those who have had an anniversary, birthday or celebration to come up front and introduce themselves and tell us what they are celebrating and even sharing their age and number of years they have been married. This gives the congregation a chance to get to know others better and to celebrate life with them. They then can give as they wish. Most people give $1 for each year they are celebrating. Approximately $6,000 was collected the first year! The Mission's Committee decided to use the bulk of the money to help provide clean drinking water for a community. The search was narrowed down to working with an agency called LIVING WATER INTERNATIONAL (LWI), and helping a community in Mexico. This was an up-lifting experience to see and know that this community would have access to clean drinking water for about 200 people in the area. We hope this story will continue and we will be able to do something as worthwhile again. To see the LWI Report for 2009, click: Report. (Note, this is a very large pdf file that takes awhile to download, but it is worth it!) A MISSIONARY COUPLE, LUIS AND EUNICE ARAMAYO:
The JC FUMC is in a covenant Relationship with a missionary couple, Luis and Eunice Aramayo. They are currently waiting for reassignment. We contribute to the salary of Eunice Arias and Luis Aramayo as well as through special offerings to two of their projects: > The Biblical and Technical Methodist Mayan School; and > The Children's Christian Education Program. You can visit their Website at: www.euniceluis.com
DISASTER RESPONSE:
We have had subsequent training in disaster response topics and continue our mission to plan, prepare and respond. For more information regarding FUMC-Johnson City involvement in this, click on Disaster Response. From this base, under George Barnett's leadership at the FUMC conference level, we have formed the Blanco County Disaster Response Group to serve these needs on a broader basis. For information on this, click www.BlancoCountyDisasterResponseGroup.org BLANCO COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Blanco County's first Habitat House has been completed. Volunteers from the FUMC worked on building the house and others provided food. The dedication for the house occurred on Saturday, May 5, 2007. Click to enlarge pictures below: (first two during construction, and last two at completion). P.E.T. PROJECT TEXAS: P.E.T. stands for Personal EnergyTransportation. They are hand-cranked 3-wheel vehicles that use tires suitable on dirt and grass areas. They are constructed by volunteers and shipped to over 60 different countries worldwide. The recipients are those who have lost the use of their legs due to land mines, polio, amputation or disease. Luling, TX is one of seven sites in the USA that makes the PETs. The FUMC adopted this project several years ago and are always looking for volunteers that would like to travel to Luling to spend a day doing construction, painting, and packing the boxes for shipment. Contact Mickey Little (868-7430) for details. The PETs are shipped in heavy cardboard boxes; the "packing material" consists of used blue jeans, t-shirts, children's clothes, women's skirts/dresses, teddy bears, children's toys, and clear plastic bottles with screw tops. These items are quite usable to those receiving the PETs. Place them in the labeled boxes in the Work Room across from the Church Office. The world changed a bit for another Johnson City resident. The lady was confined to a wheelchair after breaking her hip, making getting in and out of her home hard and hazardous. The Change-the-World team from our church showed up with lumber and tools, and two days later she had a 27-foot ramp that allowed safe, easy access. While David Hamm, right, and Paul Axtell screwed a plank into place, Nathan Axtell, center, waited orders to bring the next board for Mickey Little, left, to slide into place. With that kind of teamwork, the group was able to finish in only two half-days. Anyone who needs a hand with a project, or would like to be a blessing to others, can call JoAnn at 868-7414 to get on the list.
